It Takes Two To Talk Details

Meeting weekly on Fridays, each session is an informal 2.5 hours long with participants encouraged to find a comfortable and quiet spot at home with some coffee, tea and/or snacks.

Individual Visits, scheduled between sessions (Saturday or Sunday).

Conversation is structured around the content of the parent guidebook It Takes Two to Talk: A Practical Guide for Parents of Children with Language Delays (Weitzman, 2017). Participants are not required to have a child with language delays to participate.

Parent Feedback

  • “I have learned that communication is two-way, not just giving instructions to my child.”

  • “I was just waiting for them to talk, but now I realize that when they look at me, smile and make sounds and gestures when we play together, they have made huge progress.”

  • “What made this group so memorable for me was knowing that I’m not the only one in this situation.”

  • “I realized that I was always choosing what to play and how to play. I also talked so much that my child didn’t have much chance to initiate.”

  • “I bombarded my child with questions. Now I’m using fewer questions and giving them a chance to answer.”

  • “I used to believe that my child would learn through osmosis. Now I know how important slowed- down, repetitive language really is.”
